Center for Disease Control and Prevention - Great site for teens needing sources for diseases or other health-related topics. The A-Z indexes link to areas on the CDC site for comprehensive and authoritative information. General overviews of topics complete with statistics, links to other Web sites, and a special section devoted just to adolescent health issues make this a very useful site.
Food and Drug Administration: On the Teen Scene - This site uses articles from FDA Consumer that relate to teen issues. These articles can be found on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's site or reprinted upon request. A very wide range of topics--cosmetics to hearing, nutrition to asthma--written into articles of several pages and links to mre information all make this an excellent site.
Go Ask Alice! is the health question and answer Internet service produced by Alice!, Columbia University's Health Education Program — a division of Health Services at Columbia. The mission of Go Ask Alice! is to increase access to, and use of, health information by providing factual, in-depth, straight-forward, and nonjudgmental information to assist readers' decision-making about their physical, sexual, emotional, and spiritual health.
Anyone suspecting a friend or family member has an eating disorder should check this site out. A wealth of information for teens on all types of eating disorders is available, along with recovery stories, statistics, prevention methods and causes. Local treatment options and national organizations are listed. The site also provides information to help people recognize signs and symptoms of eating disorders and what to do about them. While not a flashy site, it does provide important information in an easy-to-use search format.
