CancerNet provides recent, accurate information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the government's principal agency for cancer research. The NCI conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs related to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and continuing care of cancer patients and their families. Treatment options, clinical trials, ways to reduce cancer risk and coping with cancer as well as resources on support groups, financial assistance, and educational materials are also provided.

MEDLINEplus provides up-to-date, quality healthcare information from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. The site contains extensive information about
specific diseases and conditions and wellness; a medical encyclopedia; excellent drug information for over 9,000 prescription and over-the-counter medications;
over 100 herbal and supplement monographs; and 30 interactive modules for patient education (the
interactive modules require a Flash plug-in, which can be downloaded free of charge). Also provided are directories for location and credentials of doctors, dentists, and hospitals; health information in Spanish and other languages; and clinical trials.
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM)

This site provides a broad range of healing philosophies (schools of thought), approaches, and therapies that mainstream Western (conventional) medicine does not commonly use, accept, study, or make available. NCCAM was established at the National Institutes of Health by Congress in 1998 to stimulate, develop and support research on complementary and alternative medicine, and to provide the American public reliable information about the safety and effectiveness of these practices. The number of Americans using alternative therapy rose from about 33 percent in 1990 to more than 42 percent in 1997. The most used therapies were: herbal medicine, massage, megavitamins, self-help groups, folk remedies, energy healing, and homeopathy. Extensive educational and research materials are available at this site.
